True, depends on the client really. If you're hired by Vogue you're going to want to D+B, if you need a fast turnaround you need a faster retouching method, although frequency separation would probably serve you better than reduce noise.

Agree with you Danny, I have worked with 30MP images before and to be quite honest, it was faster to enhance using this method. Masks indeed is the best way of going about it but I am afraid many amateur startup Photoshopper will find this more helpful. Imagine you have 200 pictures you have to do this on, this might be the fastest way to go on about. If its just one or few, then yes... advanced method on high res pictures will give greater outcome.

It's best to get into good habits early though Ali, J makes a really good point. It's hard to break bad photoshop habits later on, I'd definitely encourage the use of masks. I'm currently writing a tutorial on the industry way to retouch a beauty photograph like this, mind if I link to it here as further study when it's done? With a print sized image you need to spend a few hours dodging and burning individual pores on curves adjustment layers, it's pretty involved and advanced stuff, you might find it interesting.

This is a wonderful tutorial, but maybe instead of using the eraser (a destructive tool) maybe using a mask would help in the event of a mistake or if you would like to go back and change it up!!
